BUILD WITH MUSICAL IDEAS

Arrange. Place bells in a line, a ring, a chord, or a shape of your own.
Perform. Tap or strum. Move the notes to change how you play them.
Compose. Record a phrase. Play it alongside another, or capture both in a new recorder bell.

Tap Record, play, then tap the same button to finish. Tap a playing phrase bell or path circle again to stop that playback.

Link paths by drawing through another path’s start circle. Finish inside the starting circle to begin a continuous loop. The whole gesture repeats until you tap its circle to stop. Tap a playing circle to stop it. Silent edit lets you rearrange without triggering new sounds; running paths and phrases continue.

Record again while playing earlier phrases to compose in layers.

On desktop, use Backspace/Delete to erase a selection, ⌘/Ctrl+C and V to copy, and ⌘/Ctrl+Z to undo. Escape stops playback.

About this study

This is an experimental web reconstruction of Eric Rosenbaum’s MelodyMorph, not an official release. It is incomplete. Sounds use the existing MusEDLab MusyngKite library: plucked acoustic bass, electric piano, acoustic piano, vibraphone and nylon-string guitar, with synthesized backups if loading fails.

Recorder bells capture performed notes as independent snapshots. Canvas position does not set pitch or time.

Colored shapes are the default. Piano keys can be switched on as an optional guide. The chromatic arrangement follows Alex’s recollection. Swipe scrolling, compact octave controls and optional keyboard surfaces are browser adaptations. Round bells use plucked acoustic bass at Alex’s request. Piano uses a ring and electric piano a square; Bass and Piano swap the archive’s shape assignments. Tools stay active until switched off; tap the active tool again to return to Play. In Move, drag or pinch empty canvas to navigate. Drawing colors and widths are new options; the archived Draw tool used white lines. Timed paths replay through the current bell layout. Select can box-select bells, paths and drawings for group movement and copying. Pitch up and down transpose selected note bells by a semitone; phrases and paths keep their content. A path head crossing another path’s start circle starts or restarts that path from the beginning. Ending inside its own start circle makes a continuous loop at the full recorded duration. Ending outside plays once, even if the path passes through its own circle. Crossing lines alone does not connect them. Tap a playing circle to stop it. Silent edit prevents taps and drags from triggering new sounds while existing paths and phrases continue. Diatonic shows the seven natural pitches; Chromatic shows all twelve. This changes only the tray. Original sound parity and sensor expression are not implemented.
